If you receive this message it means either the Stripe Credit Card Reader on the iPad is not plugged in or the Reader has been turned on.
FIX: First make sure the Reader is plugged in. Once plugged in, it will automatically also turn on the Reader and green lights will temporarily appear on the right side of the Reader.
If the Reader is plugged in, go ahead and hold the Power button on the bottom of the reader until the green lights appear on the right side of the Reader.
Still experiencing and issue?
The reader will not connect to the iPad if the reader is under 50% battery. We send them out fully charged, but occasionally the charge is depleted.
To check what battery level the reader is currently at, press the white button on the underside of the Stripe reader and you will see green dots.
Each dot represents 25%, so if you see one dot, it will not connect. Wait until the reader has at least three dots before attempting to connect it to the iPad.
On very rare instances, you may need to reconnect the reader in the “Stripe Terminal Settings” within the Expo app, if it does not automatically connect to the iPad by itself.
From the iPad Kiosk Admin Toolkit, if you open the “Stripe Terminal Settings” and see a multiple number of Stripe readers on the list, here’s what you can do to ensure you choose the right Stripe reader.
Press the iPad Home button
Go to “Settings” on the iPad
Tap on “Bluetooth” and the Stripe reader serial number will appear on the right side, under “My Devices”.
Remember the last Four digits of the Serial number & go back to the Expo app.
Select the matching last Four digits of the Stripe terminal reader you saw on the iPad settings.
Once you tap on it, it may update, which can take anywhere from Two to Ten minutes. If there is no update, it will connect immediately and the app will say “Reader Connected Successfully”.
